From what I understand is that the gas regulators have a safety feature in them to keep from having a run away if the line gets cut or some thing may gridle runs real good and high in the mornings but in the afternoons if will only run about half as strong in less you shut it down and turn off the tank then re start it is there a after market regulator you can get to replace these pain in the rump regulators

I had something similar on my smoker. I pre-heated it right at 225 then had to turn it off to take care of something for the wife. I thought I’d be clever and not turn off the regulator in the smoker and just turn off the gas at the tank. Getting back to it I turned the tank on, lit the fire and placed the wood chips and waited for 225. I never got much over 120-140. I turned everything off and restarted everything and voila! Back in business. It may be a tank thing but more than likely a stock regulator thing.
