I don't have personal experience refilling these, but I have a friend who uses them somewhat regularly. He loves it, says they're super easy to refill from a standard 20 lb tank.
Yes, they are. Bottles are purchased separately from the valve gizmo, but everything is Fuel Keg.
The 2022 thread started by Meathead has several members talking about refilling the disposable bottles. Completely aside from whether that is safe, if something did happen their use might be cause for an insurance company to deny homeowner's coverage.
Not only is it illegal, but it can also blow up and kill you.
I have a LP hose that will connect to a 20 lb bottle and connect to any device which takes the 1 lb bottle. Much easier as I have a 20 lb bottle for the camping fire pit so it makes it real easy and economical. Those 1 lb units have really gone up in price.
I have two of them and I really like them, if anything else just to not have to throw away 1lb bottles all the time. They’re easy to fill up but it really needs to be filled outdoors because you do lose some gas vapor in the filling process and it will quickly fill up whatever room you’re in, even a garage with the door open. Ask me how I know👍🏻
I’d be happy to answer any other questions you have.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I have a refill kit that I have yet to use. Meant to refill some of the green bottles I use for the camp stove and lantern, and my Performer, but the Performer gets about a year out of each green bottle, so I've not bothered. And I don't use the camp stove or lantern unless the power is out...
I may pick a couple of these up though, at some point. I am guessing they are thicker walled and safer to fill than the ones intended for one time use.
