I get mine refilled at the wholesale club. Fun fact: if the tank is too old or has a bad valve or whatever and it can't be refilled, no problem! About 1/2 mile away from the wholesale club is a Home Depot and NOBODY there cares. Just say you have a tank to exchange and you think anyone bothers to check? Nope. You pay about what you would pay for a new empty tank, but get one that isnt exactly new but is full. And can be refilled.

Have never done the exchange routine, but I like the idea of exchanging an out of certification tank for a newer one.
There is a propane outfit here that, 2 years ago, charged $5 to recertify a 20 lb tank.
Due to orchard heating in the spring to protect against late frost, we have numerous propane suppliers. I suspect that they are highly competitive.

How do you transport your tanks ?
I put mine in the floorboard of the cab of my truck, cause I can't find a way to secure in the bed. Don't like doing that.
BTW, I get my tanks filled at U-Haul. One near me is at $3.50 a gallon, right now. They promise competitive prices.

I put all my tanks in the very back of the bed, against the tailgate. I then run a ratchet strap through all the handles, hooked to the two bed post pockets at the back corner. I sometimes put a second strap around them, secured to two hooks that are in the bottom corners of the bed. Unfortunately the recent installation of a lift gate has blocked those hooks, as they are behind the Tommy Gate brackets... so just the strap through the handles last time.

I think Cynch came up on here a few months ago. It's a tank exchange delivery service run by Amerigas. Here are my prices:
I very well might use them....the only thing I would have for propane is my generator. I don't own a gas grill, griddle, or wok (yet). I read their FAQ and you aren't limited to their brand; that is, you can exchange any branded tank as long as it is a 20 lb standard propane grill tank. There is a $2 surcharge though if you make them walk around your house.
I went as far as actually entering my CC info and there doesn't appear to be any hidden delivery fees or anything like that. (Curiously, tax wasn't computed....which is weird.)

Consider looking for a propane supplier that services RVs, food trucks, and other high volume buyers. I discovered a place that had a 60,000 lb. storage tank, received 10,000 lbs. per day in replenishments, and had trucks that delivered propane to businesses in the area. I don't have to visit them often, but when I do, they fill all three tanks without resetting the counter in between.

I have mine refilled at Tractor Supply now as they charge a per gallon price vs a flat rate. It’s cheaper than both an exchange and a fill at other locations. When I’ve had multiple tanks low I get three filled for roughly what two normal fills/exchanges would cost. It also means that when I have an empty I might as well take the tank that’s in use and have it topped off while I’m there which is really convenient

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I am getting all my tanks refilled at the local Ace Hardware, as they are less than a mile from the house.
They give you choice of a flat fee $14.99 per 20# tank, or whatever the going per-gallon price is for propane. Something like $3.99 last time I went. I filled 5 tanks, some empty, some partially, all to 20# fills, for around $50, a few days before Thanksgiving. Went inside and grabbed a back of B&B charcoal and paid for the refills.
