Food for thought: WSJ: grilling hasn’t been this cheap in years

    From the Wall Street Journal:

sorry, this may be behind a paywall. A notable quote:

Fire up the grill: Propane prices haven’t started summer this low since the Covid-19 lockdown three years ago.

Propane cost 60 cents a gallon this past week at the trading hub in Mont Belvieu, Texas, where benchmark prices are determined for futures traders, exporters and Gulf Coast chemical makers. It hit 58 cents Friday at the Kansas market that influences what a lot of farmers pay for propane that they burn to dry autumn harvests.
But still, how could one take advantage of this? Any thoughts on how one could ‘save up’ for the future? Or is that just unrealistic?

I can say that actual propane prices dont seem to make a difference for how much you pay for a blue rhino tank up here. If you get it from someplace like lowes you get a maybe 8/10 full tank, Tractor supply lets you fill your own (which is in some ways a little nuts) but i havent found a good way to save money or stock up as you said on propane tanks. I think your best bet is to monitor prices, have a direct line if your grill is compatible and then make the decision to run on tank or the natural gas line.

Independent propane fill station > Amerigas (Sam’s Club) > Blue Rhino.

One good thing about Amerigas is that if you need a propane tank at 3:00AM Christmas morning you can go to the dispensing machine and get a tank. My experience just by hefting them is that they are pretty close to full, compared to Blue Rhino. But still less than getting it filled at a station.
