Found Some Great Tumbleweeds At A Great Price…..

If you’re in the market for some good fire starters at a great price, here ya go! I’m a tumbleweed fan myself, didn’t really care for the wax cubes. Several months ago I started trying a few different brands, got tired of paying Royal Oak’s prices. I went to Amazon last year and found some at a good price. When I got them I was surprised at how small they were, barely half the size of any that I’d used before. They worked, eh, ok, but they were kinda crumbly and the straw came loose pretty easily. I had to treat em with kid gloves. Last week I ordered a different brand and used one last night for the 1st time.

I’ve finally found the perfect combination of quality and price. They’re a brand called Shwueve….found em on Amazon. For a box of 65 tumbleweeds they were only $16. That’s about 25 cents apiece. And these are good quality firestarters too. They’re also a little bit bigger than Royal Oak’s. Each one is 2 1/2 inches long and seem to be wound pretty good, they don’t start dropping straw when you pick em up. I think they’re a little bit better than Royal Oaks’ and definitely cheaper.

I bought an off brand a couple weeks ago also because of the price. My box had 130 and were slightly less than 25 cents each. They seem to work just as well as the Royal Oak. They are probably made in the same Chinese factory.

I checked online at Home Depot and they were $10. for a box of 16!….[Royal Oak] Walmart was $6.00, but that’s still 38 cents apiece.

I was using the cardboard rolls from TP and Paper Towels stuffed with paper for my pizza oven. Worked great.
Don't know how that would work for a smoker or grill though.

That works, but the tumbleweeds work better for me.

I've bought Sunz fire starters off Amazon a few times, 70 for $18 regular price and they work fine.

Oh wow, that reminds me of southwest Kansas and the Texas panhandle. They get huge there. Some have stems big enough to dent your car.

I have used these Rutland fire starters for years. The store where I bought my first Kamado Joe threw in a box of these and a bag of B&B lump. I’ve come back to B&B but never left these fire starters. They aren’t greasy or crumbly, just break off a square and stick it in the charcoal. I’ve never needed more than one to get a fire going. For 144 that’s not a bad price. Click image for larger version

I’m getting low on the Weber cubes…I’ll have to give something like this a try. The cubes I like, but man can they make a mess with the crumbs. Thanks for sharing!

I also used these for years. Would highly recommend.

I am now working on my $8 box or so of Melt firestarters that Huskee found. Also pretty good. A bit more crumbly than the Rutland but still do the trick!

Don't need them. If I want to light some charcoal, I can just set them on a fire line!!

And I couldn't if I wanted to, we are in a burn ban.

I make my own from small paper cups or egg cartons, leftover paraffin/unscented candles, and sawdust/pine wood pellets. I don't do it to save money, just for fun:
