So I'm running low on charcoal, look online at the big box stores in the area, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Home Depot and the lot, not a bag in stock.
If they did have anything in stock it was so expensive I'd put it on the mantle and worship it not burn it.
And this was at numerous locations all within 20-30 minute drive from me.
Finally found a couple of bags of Kingsford briquettes at a Home Depot 5 mins away.
What is wrong with carrying charcoal year round.
Rant over.

Argoboy I was thinking about what you are doing, my cousin still has hardwood acreage and has a portable sawmill set up south of Owen Sound.
Don't know how open he will be to this but will give him a call on it.
Fogo is up here but not at the big box stores, just at specialty BBQ stores and fall into the worship it thing.
Royal Oak is the most affordable followed by Kingsford, when a bag of charcoal is a tank of gas i gotta say no.
Lump is hard to find at the big box stores in my area during the big Christmas build up. But, there are places I can find if I am willing to pay more than I usually so.
smokin fool a lot of walmart.com product is actually being sold by 3rd parties (like amazon marketplace) so no assurance you won't get price gouged buying on the website. I think the page will say who the seller is

Luckily, KBB is always in stock around here and it's just a matter of stocking up when it goes on sale. Paying full price does kinda freak me out, though.
I thought I had a spare bag of pellets in the garage, I usually have 100+ lbs minimum on hand and always order when theres one unopened 40lb bag left. I thought wrong... I didn't want to go to Sams club on BlackFriday/Cyber Monday weekend, so I went to Dicks, no pellets... went to Tractor Supply, no pellets... went to Lowes, saw the crowded parking lot at went to Wally world. Yeah they had about 50 bags of stuff but there were soaking wet bags of charcoal tossed in a pile with damp and expanded pellets. I managed to find 2 bags that were not moisture compromised.
I did notice the empty or even non-existent stocking locations for Charcoal on my adventure, I asked a friend at a big box store and they said they have to make room for holiday items and with the social media push to decorate for Christmas early, it pushed corporate to direct their store to do extreme moves... I would assume this was a common theme for most big stores, which is probably why Wally World musta put the charcoal and pellets outside at some point to make room.
This is true, I have been picking up a bag at Walmart of Royal Oak lump every week or two to stay ahead of the game during the winter. Last time I had to climb over a pallet of Christmas decorations and between 2 pallets of Christmas boxes to get one of the last bags they had.
