Not a good bag of charcoal

So being a good Cdn and all wanted to support a Cdn charcoal producer....mistake....
Maple Leaf Hardwood charcoal.
Top of the bag nuggets towards the middle there were some quality chunks, bottom of bag even smaller nuggets and dust.
I'm on my third fill up of the Keg as this stuff since 11:00 as thus stuff just doesn't last.
Had a bag of Royal Oak in garage so tossed the rest of the MLH.
The difference in chunk size is huge.
I hate to rip a CDN supplier and hopefully this was an isolated bag but this was my experience.

My belief is that the quality of the bag of charcoal is directly related to where it was stacked on the pallet. Most bags bought this time of year are bottom bags! Lots of rubble.

True that Mosca A lot of times the bags get tossed and banged around. Thus breaking up a lot of the coals. It’s a shame. But it happens all the time.

I agree Mosca. I've tried several brands of charcoal in recent years and occasionally some that was suppose to be "larger chunks and premium" didn't seem quite that way.

Agreed with how the bags are handled.
The Maple Leaf can off the shelf at the local Cdn Tire so who knows how many times it been handled to get to that shelf.
The bag of Royal Oak came right off the pallet at Walmart so should have had minimal handling.
The difference in the size of chunks in each bag was evident.
To be fair I will buy another bag of Maple Leaf in the future and give them a chance to redeem themselves.
