Does anyone have a review of these Royal Oak briquettes?

My wife grabbed a pack of these from Wal-Mart today for $8.88. It's a two-pack of 18lbs. Anyone use them?

I am not familiar with those but have used the orange bags forever. The orange bag burn clean and consistent and are better than Kingsford in my opinion. Sounds like they were on sale for the 4th. Try them and see what you think and report back here.

grantgallagher I have found them to burn a little longer, cleaner and hotter. Your right I buy them at Lowe's during there Memorial Day and Labor Day sales. I just stock up then. There was a review on one of the BBQ sites that put them ahead of KFB.

Royal Oak orange bags here too, that's all that's available in this area from any store.
Without anything to compare to I have no opinion, sorry.

Sorry, Mike ... never tried the Royal Oak ... just the Commoner Oak. It was ... kinda common ... 😎 ...

Used Royal Oak once, years ago, before I knew much. I remember not liking them as well as Kford, never bought them again. Not sure if the same bag/formula as those, or even if my decision was unfounded at the time and perhaps I'd feel differently today.

I had the same experience. Did not seem to burn as long for me. I can do a long cook, low and slow, on the Chubby G2 without refilling if using KBB. Can't do that with the Royal Oak orange.

I'll try 'em tomorrow and let y'all know what I think.

I like the orange bag Royal Oak. Doesn’t burn as long as KBB, but I like the aroma better.

Preface: I'm a Royal Oak guy. It's just what I got used to using.

These burn just fine. For what you pay, they are as good as anything else. My only beneficial observation is they produce a smidge less ash than the orange bag (original) and maybe a little longer burn time. I'm working through some Chef Select I bought off Facebook and these are very similar, maybe the briqs are smaller in this bag vs. chef select.

I’d burn anything on sale. KBB is always cheaper here, a lot cheaper, which is why I buy a lot when they have there sales. If RO had similar offerings I’d burn that. Not a charcoal snob, just a cheap skate

Same here but I'm becoming more snobbish as time moves on. This winter I found 14.5 pound bags of Embers on clearance for $1.90 per bag. I bought 11 bags but I don't like it. It produces a really off-putting flavor unless it's thoroughly lit. Of the various types of briquettes I've burned Weber is by far my favorite.

I agree on the Weber as well as B&B. Problem is, from a cost perspective, they are expensive. Not sure there's bang for the buck.

Yeah, that's why I use it sparingly. I was able to snag the last 4 bags at HD when it went on clearance for $3.90 per bag. I would have purchased 4 times that amount had I the opportunity. Now I can only find it at ACO for $17 per bag.

I did a comparison between KBB, Weber and RO last year or so. The RO burnt very clean and consistent, and I didn’t notice near as much ash either. The only thing is it seemed to burn pretty fast for me. So I’ve been using it for hot and fast cooks with great results.

I saw that today, heading there and HD Friday. Twin pack of KBB 20's $15. I told wife I'm going and she does not understand. I said sale, better to load up. Shook her head and walked away. We're still friends.

I'm on my second bag using these briquettes after buying them on sale at Lowes before Memorial Day weekend. I haven't done any sort of direct comparison, but they seem to burn a little fast to me and I've definitely noticed that they produce a heavy load of sparks when I dump them out of the chimney (compared to KBB). Burned a bunch of my arm hair last time actually.
