I need a new long burning charcoal

I used to use weber briquettes but i cant get them anywhere locally now. I usually just use Kingsford but im getting tired of it for longer cooks. The below is what i can get locally:

    Royal Oak Charcoal briquettes
Cowboy charcoal oak and hickory hardwood charcoal
    cowboy charcoal lump
    Komodo joe big block lump
    kingsford long burn

Any recommendations? 95% of cooking done in weber kettle with SnS

    Try BnB: https://www.bbcharcoal.com

KB Long Burn works great for me too.

I'm with Dave on this one. Just tried them yesterday in a 22" weber kettle I got my son for Fathers Day. Pretty impressed.

I am going to do some tests with some Fogo Premium to see if I like it or not in my kettle. I still have about 35 bags of Weber from the sale last fall so I am good there. And a whole bunch of Kingsford. I have tried lump in the past but want to use it a bit more to see if I like it and see how it does on longer cooks.

Really interested to see how you like the Fogo, I've been thinking about it myself but I can't get over the price (though if its as good as they claim I may take the plunge...)

I did one very small cook (some horribly thin steaks) and it worked great. Burned hot, low ash, lit fairly quickly, and the Premium had mostly pieces that were about briquette size. Some were bigger, some were smaller but very few pieces that were too small so far.

I am doing a tri-tip on Thursday so I will get a better idea if they can hold the heat for 45-60 minutes or so while I reverse sear.

Weber briquettes burn long and clean. Love it for low/slow.

B and B does burn longer, but not significantly so in my SNS. What kind of burn time are you trying to achieve?

I barely only get about 6-7 with kingsford and would really like to be able to go 8-10 without restocking coals

Then try the long burn Kingsford or the B&B. It also matters what temp. I usually cook at 275 and up so I end up re-stocking, not that big a hassle.

Grant I am in the same boat as you in regards to liking Weber but no longer having it available locally.

I can only comment on the Royal Oak, as I have gone through a lot of that. I get 5-6 hours on a load of that in the SNS, compared to 7-8 for KBB and 10-12 for Weber. I only use the Royal Oak for stuff like rib cooks, and not overnight.

Weber has become very difficult to find locally. We have an ACO that carries it but they charge $17 for a 20-pound bag.

Well Weber wants 15 on line plus shipping I believe. I can't get there site to come up to see if they charge shipping or not.

The Weber site has a "Retailers" link which shows TrueValue having it online for $12.99. I hope I read that right.

Liked Stubbs for the same reason, but that’s gone now also. Local selection is now two brands. Used to be so much better

          Check Home Depot.
Not any use to you but my local HD up here still stocks Weber Briquettes.
Had a skid of them last weekend, then quite possibly they're selling off what they still have.

best option i can find is to order online from ace hardware and it seems to be free shipping. still 20 bucks a bag though. ill probably order a few and also pick up some kingsford long burn to test that too.

Never mind, scratch that. Their shipping is weird. $15 bucks for 3 backs or 60 bucks for 5 bags. hmmmm

grantgallagher Hey - not sure if you have True Value Hardware near you, but I found some bags of Weber there today for $12.99/20lb bag.
