Spending the weekend at my camp in the Adirondacks. I have a Weber 22†grill and decided to buy an SnS for smoking in the woods!
Today is its first cook. I have a bag of Kingsford regular briquets but when I stopped at a local grocery store I saw they had bags of Kingsford Cherrywood briquets. Grabbed a bag.
i am smoking a Tri Tip and some veggie kabobs.
Anyone ever used the Cherrywood version? I do have some apple and cherry wood chunks I was going to use.
The dilemma! :-)
I’ve used it. It’s fine, not much different than regular KBB. The briquettes have a little bit of wood shavings mixed in. There’s nothing wrong with using it, but I’d still add wood chunks.
Never seen that flavor but do love cherry wood, just smoked some bacon with some yesterday. I’ve used the mesquite blend for years and love that stuff. If the cherry is as good I’d definitely buy some.
Cabela's up here has had black cherry wood once in a while hard to get cause it sells out fast when they do have it.
We had really good results when we tried it, hard to explain but maybe not as "harsh" as other hard woods used for smoking.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Never have. My humble opinion is buy cheap regular charcoal and just get some wood chunks and toss one on vs buying pricier charcoal. That said, since you have it, and for those who have no access to wood chunks, or there's none at the store they're at, it has to be good stuff. You'll likely never notice it if you use wood also though.
