Oak and hickory lump charcoal question

I bought a couple bags of oak and hickory lump charcoal.
my question is by using this charcoal in my BGE, does it have the same effect of hickory chips for smoking ribs?
    thx

I use th oak, an hickory briqs alla th time, on small cooker, or short / hot / fast cooks, etc.; imparts great flavour, with no chunks added...

Not experienced with th lump, but baselessly assmue (yeah, I know...) that it is intended to accomplish th same results.

Other, much smarter folks will be along shortly, I'd reckon, an share their lump experience.

      Thanks for your insight.
I figure if it accomplishes the same smoke as chips, then I can skip the added step.

What Brand lump are you using?

I found Cowboy brand on sale at Lowe's and thought i,d give it a try on ribs.

A word of caution about Cowboy. I stopped using it after numerous times of findg stones, strips of blue tarp, fencing or ir electrical staples, and other unappetizing stuff in the bags. Strictly KBB now but may try Fogo soon.

I'm not a fan of Cowboy. I can recommend B&B, and Rockwood. I've used B&B in both oak and mesquite I really can't tell a difference. I would think if both were properly carbonized there would be almost no difference. I add wood chunks like apple, pecan, or mesquite to get the smoke flavor I want.

The Cowboy Brand that I've used was from Costco last summer. It was heavy with mesquite and I didn't care much for it. In my experience, the charcoal should put out minimal smoke. If it does produce smoke, I don't use it again. Been using Fogo and Royal Oak - American made with good success as of late.

The interesting thing is that the old American-made Cowboy tended to have junk in it and burn too fast, while the newer (since 2014 or so) is pretty clean, has more uniform pieces, and doesn't spark as much.
