It appears neither Home Depot nor Lowe’s has Kingsford on sale this Memorial Day. Royal Oak is on sale at Lowe’s and Ember is on sale at Home Depot.
EDIT: I may have sounded a false alarm. I just realized that although the advertisement was called Memorial Day savings, the advertised prices aren't good through Memoria Day. So they may well put Kingsford on sale over the actual Memorial Day weekend.
I thought the same thing when I saw their "Memorial Day Sale" add in their weekly, but the dates on it say it's through May 22nd. So, I'm holding out hope that their real Memorial Day sale will be the following week, during the real Memorial Day weekend.

Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Haha. I am still trying to work through the big stockpile I made last summer, and swore off buying more until I did, especially since I am fixing to tear the garden shed it is stored in down to the ground and rebuild it. I cannot believe it is summer again...
Good to hear MBMorgan. I just checked and no-one has it in-stock within 25 miles of me, aside from an Ace Hardware that is selling it for $5 more per bag ($19.99). Otherwise I guess I could buy online with ship-to-store for pickup at Walmart or elsewhere.
I agree jfmorris. I can only find it at Ace for $18 per bag. When Lowe's priced it at $12 per bag it was a deal. $18 is a bit much. It is great for low/slow and it burns clean. Embers and RO have an off-putting smoke flavor. I am going to have a hard time finding ways to use them up.
I've never seen lump on sale - otherwise I would have tried it before now. Locally there are the 3 summer sales on the 2 packs of Kingsford, and sales (a lot more often) on Royal Oak briquettes at Lowes.
Early fall last year Walmart put 30 pound bags of Western lump charcoal on clearance for $6.90 per bag. I purchased 6 and have one left. It's comparable to RO but with less dust. A lot of tiny pieces at the bottom of the bag, but at that price....I should have bought more, in hindsight.
