    Weber charcoal (first time use)

So I finally tried the Weber charcoal that many of us picked up dirt cheap a while back. Unbelievable how much longer it lasts compared to KBB. Did a 8.5lb butt. It took 10hrs to cook and the coals lasted an additional 6hrs before starting to die. A total of 16hrs of rock steady burning. Definitely will be using the Weber charcoal for all my future long cooks.

I have seen the same. Lasts much, much longer than KBB. Wish I would have got another 40 bags of it when it was on sale.

yeah, the webber charcoal rocks for long cooks. I have consistently seen much longer burn time with those briquettes.

Same experience here. Can't say enough good things about it.

I love the Weber charcoal as well - it’s all I want to use on cooks longer than 6-8 hours. Unfortunately, both my Home Depot and Lowe’s have quit carrying it, and none of the Home Depot’s in Huntsville ever had that clearance for $3.90 a bag. They had it on clearance for $10.80 or something like that - still a great deal, but I couldn’t afford the entire pallet at that price.

jfmorris, same here in Bham metro. Real bummer they quit carrying it. I've found it at some of the larger Weber dealers though. So if you really love it, maybe that's an option. I'll see if I can stick to B&B or Stubb's briqs.

Thanks @austree - I've got about 6 bags of the Weber still in my storage shed out back, and will try to reserve it for overnight cooks on the kettle+SNS. I'll have to find something else longer lasting than KBB after it runs out. Are you using the B&B lump, or do they make briquettes? I've used Stubbs, but my Lowe's stopped carrying that too.

I have about 5 or 6 bags left and love the long burn. However they're now only available at Ace Hardware for $19.99 and I'm not paying that. B&B Hardwood Briquettes are usually available at my Academy Sports and they last almost as long as Weber at $8.99 for 17.6 pounds.

Good to know that about the B&B Briquttes. That's actually a good price, and there is an Academy about 5-6 miles from me.

I have never seen them in our area.

Me either. When everyone else was buying pallets of it from their Home Depot dirt cheap I went to my Home Depot and nada. Rep. there said that HD location has never carried it.

I've used it quite a bit. Love it for low/slow. It burns clean. Good stuff.

Awesome! Thanks for the data. I will have to give it a try next time I am at the HW store. This is interesting!

That's great, thanks for sharing; though now I'm even more disappointed that my local Home Depot didn't have any during the sale.

I have a couple of unopened bags. I'll give them a try on my next long cook. Which should be this weekend - maybe a butt.

You won't be disappointed, and its surprising how much longer they last than KBB.

Both Lowes and Home Depot stopped carrying Weber charcoal in my area too, which sucks. I don’t understand why. I had to buy KBB and I really hate that stuff. I forgot how much more ash KBB produces.

Weber is hard to find here as well. With the HD clearance I was able to snatch 4 bags and my boys got me a a bag for Christmas, which is now gone.

I went to my local Ace yesterday and they have it but it costs $20, which is insane. I was paying $12 at Lowes.

Is there anything on the bag that indicates where weber charcoal is made and/or who makes it? Just wondering if it can be found under another moniker?
