I used Cowboy for a long time because it was readily available. I started buying Royal Oak for a while and when I switched back to Cowboy I could tell a big difference. While Cowboy isn't a premium by any means, it definitely outperformed Royal Oak. These are the only brands I've tried. I may try the KJ XL at some point soon. I try to stick with what I can pick up quickly if I run out though.

Here is Kingsford's product description....
"Now you can have the best of both worlds, with Kingsford® Lump Briquettes. Our 100% Natural Lump Briquettes give you the high-heat searing capabilities of lump charcoal, along with the fast lighting, consistent temperatures and longer burn times of briquettes. As a matter of fact, no other lump burns longer. Kingsford Lump Briquettes get your grills and smokers going fast, and bring real mesquite hardwood flavor to everything you cook. Available in a 10.6-pound bag."
Sounds like more branding "smoke and mirrors". How many ways can we re-create the briquette?

Home Depot had Royal Oak on sale $10 for 15.5lbs. So I bought a couple bags. I didn't want to go nuts, and buy a ton until I tried it or at least looked at it. Currently it's still sitting in the car along with 4 bags of KBB.
