    Royal Oak Briquettes

Going to try these being so cheap. Wondering if they might have less ash than KBB. KBB usually on the cheap memorial day weekend? Any thoughts?

I've heard it's pretty good. I just saw Costco has the double bag of KBB for 18 bucks right now. I'm sure stores up there in Sac will sell Lazarri mesquite lump charcoal, its $15/bag but produces far less ash, burns hotter and longer in my experience.

My Costco has the same deal only its not KBB its Kingsford Professional. I like the Pro brand. Not at all a fan of Royal Oak, but others swear by it.

Kingsford Pro for me too. Love the Costco price! Hardly ever use KBB anymore.

I noticed my Costco dropped $5 on the pro today! 14 for two bags crazy cheap!

I like the Lazzari. For long smokes I have always stuck with KBB. Next week Lowes and HD will have the 18.6 double bag of KBB for 9.88 like they always do which is when I load up. Was just wondering if any body had experience with it. Will just grab a few bags of it and give it a go.

I picked up a couple of bags from Lowes today. Plan to keep it for cooks on the Kettle and use the KBB for long cooks in the Chubby G2. Also plan to load up on KBB next week if they have the sale as usual.

Use Royal Oak Ridge consistently and get it for $4 from Lowes. Doesn't have the nasty smell that KBB has. Not a fan of KBB as I have found too much dust and foreign objects in it and I am not sure what they use in their binder but the starting smell is not good. Never have had a single problem with RO. Also use Weber when I get it on sale.

I use Royal Oak lately for direct cooks, and shorter indirect, and like it. It’s on sale at Lowe’s for $4 per 15 pound bag right now. I like it about as good as Kingsford especially based on cost, and cooked a bunch of burgers over it tonight. I prefer Weber for long low and slow cooks like brisket or butts, because it burns about twice as long. But for anything else, unless I find Kingsford on sale for 9.99 for a 2 pack, I’ll probably use the Royal Oak just based on cost.

I have used the RO lump and consider it just OK. I have seen lots of complaints about foreign objects in RO although I have not really experienced this.

I’ve used Royal lump as well worked fine but burns pretty quick, not a lot of ash in my experience

I use RO briquettes all the time. Just like you guys, I load up on it at $4/bag at Lowe's whenever the sales are going on. I like it. Can't comment on the amount of ash, but I've used it on long low & slow cooks as well as shorter cooks and have not had any issues. Maybe it doesn't burn quite as long as KBB, but not noticeable to me. However, I love the smell of it when it lights up.

Always have a bag of Royal Oak for grill cleanup. Burns hot and fast and it's cheap.

Yep Royal Oak is a good fuel. Not as hot as others but a good fuel.
i don't like Kingsfords start up smell.
                Stubb's is my #1, Weber #2, Royal oak #3.

Picked up a bag today and was very disappointed. Maybe I had a bad bag but when I used it today in my PBC the temps were really inconsistent. All in all it took longer than a normal cook with the KBB.

I’m not surprised. The physical quality of the briquettes seems a little lower than KBB. I’m just using it for direct cooks, and shorter indirect with my SNS in the kettle. For the PBC, you are looking more at direct cooking for a long time, and as with any change in fuel, vent adjustments might be needed.

I actually like Royal Oak better than KBB for low and slow. It seems like it lasts longer than KBB. That is just an impression, since I didn't do any scientific comparison. Royal Oak also has a Mesquite briquette that I really like.

                    Here’s a review I did a few months ago.

I like it for short indirect smoking and hot direct cooking. For the money it did a decent job.

I used the Royal Oak for the first time over the weekend and thought it was ok. I used it for a short indirect as well as smoking a Chuckie with the SnS. I don't believe the product is as consistent as KBB through the bag but with that said I would use it again. The smell is different and I found it a little harder to get lit. While I won't be a convert just yet it gets the job done with the same amount of ash as KBB. I have 4 more bags so more Royal Oak cooks to come. Still need to do a direct with it.
