So far I have used only Kamado Joe brand lump in my KJ with very good results. I have not found even a small piece of foreign material in any of the four or five bags that I have gone through and it always has a good mix of large, medium and small pieces but there is usually quite a lot of dust in the bottom of the bag that I just throw on top when I load up the KAB.

How clean is your lump charcoal?

Check with the Ace Hardware stores around you. Many have a lot of KJs stuff including the charcoal. Ace has an affiliation with KJ and can even order you a grill. A few may even have them in stock. Kamado Joe stuff if even showing up at some Lowe’s stores.

Jim

Thanks Jim but I have already checked all those outlets with no luck around me, the only places that carry it all the time are the KJ dealers around here. Oh well I hope Costco has another KJ roadshow this year so I can stock up on the cheaper side of things, I got 3 30 lb bags when I bought my Big Joe for 21 bucks each.

Roadshows in AZ have been pretty spotty the last year. One was supposed to be here in March of 2017, but it was cancelled at the last minute. None until January. Then, we had 4 of them in January. None since. I bought 4 of the 30lb bags. ButI’ve been doing well withe the Cheap El Diablo mesquite lump. No difference in the food, but I do like the smell of the KJ lump burning in the back yard better.
Best regards,
Jim
