    Reusing charcoal briquettes

I did some pizzas on the Weber Summit Charcoal last night, and when I came to open up the grill this morning, I found a lot of what looks like half-used charcoal briquettes. The surface of the briquettes is ash, but in most cases the core is still solid black. Can I just shake these to get rid of most of the external ash and reuse them? I'm happy to try it out, but the problem is that if it turns out halfway through the cook that the recycled briquettes are not working, it's going to be problematic to remove them... Photos below.

    Many thanks,
    RC

I put new briquettes in my chimney and top it off with half used ones- about 2/3 new to 1/3 half used. It works pretty well.

I do the same or just stack them on the side and dump the hot chimney load on top. Otherwise you may find you have to reload during a cook. I prefer to just let them burn out by leaving vents open.

Yup & yup, I re-use them all the time.

I reuse them all the time. They do seem to burn quicker, so if you use them for a long cook, keep watch on them so you can add more charcoal as necessary. And I also put new briquettes in the bottom of the chimney so the used won't fall through.

...I save them and mix with Red Oak lump for brisket or shoulder cooks...the fire burns cleaner..break the lump up 'till it's the same size as the reused briq's

I reuse as well. Mixing with new for shorter cooks.

          Thanks for the reassurance guys.
I am boldly reusing where, er, everybody has reused before.

I just wouldn't depend on them for a really long cook, but should be just fine otherwise.

Use them on fast cooks like hamburgers and steaks. New for everything else.

I'll put them in the starter (Like everyone else has mentioned) or toss them in the bottom of the SnS and pour the hot coals over the top.
