    #2
Ain't never used them, I'm sure they're great!!!
I jus' use a couple o' wadded up sheets of newspaper...
Many, much more qualified answers will arrive shortly, I reckon.

P.S: Sam D., over to th' General Store, gives me th' 'yesterday' papers, fer free...

spot on.. newspaper, go grab a stack of thrifty nickels and keep them in the bag with your charcoal.

I'm also a newspaper user for my chimney. I don't get the paper delivered, so I have to buy a Sunday paper every so often.

Newspaper for me too. I snag my newspaper from mother-in-law for free. Even if you have to buy them every so often, I believe it's probably the most bang for your buck. Only like 2 to 3 sheets per light.

I use empty KBB bags. Have quite a few, its kind of like recycling.

I had one of those Char Broil grills with a propane side and a charcoal side. It also had a side burner. They had the grate over that side burner designed so a charcoal chimney would sit down over it perfectly. Great design on that part. Not so much on the gas grill portion.

I've used Weber cubes and the tumbleweed starters without the chimney and they work great, but with a chimney waded up paper works perfect. I was surprised at how easy it was the first time I tried the chimney.

I had my doubts too, but it really is the only, and cheap, way to start charcoal. I hope DWCowles doesn't read that!

    Well played, Sir!

I think for Kingsford paper does fine, especially charcoal bag paper. But with B & B you gotta rip some heat to get them dudes to light.

I toss mine on the gasser.. no paper harmed in the starting process. Hot chimney of coals in about 3 minutes.

I use Weber cubes, but they do smell black smoke at first.

Used paper in the past, but didn't like the ash that always got blown all over the place. Using the Weber cubes now and am very happy with them...and you can break them in half, which is plenty.

I like the starter cubes but (when we got the local news paper) I use to use 3 pages of news paper sprayed down with vegetable oil (so it buns longer) and that did great too (other than having to deal with the bunt paper) heres how I do it (jump to 30 sec in) https://youtu.be/zwCvBqgzfBs

Both Weber cubes and Tumbleweeds. The Tumbleweeds are a bit more expensive, but I like them a lot.

You can also make your own starters. Paper egg carton, melted paraffin, and paper from your shredder basket. Cut one egg holder off the carton and fire it up. Works like a champ.
