I've found a fast and easy way to get your briquettes going hot and fast without any chemicals and oils.
Put a couple inches of lump coal in the bottom of your chimney before you fill with briquettes. The lump starts off really fast and hot compared to briquettes. Just use a few pieces of newspaper in the bottom.
If your running out of newspaper for your chimney, you can use an old tuna can. Fill it up w/ rubbing alcohol and light it up and put your chimney over it. I steal my mother-in-law's newspaper for mine.
I have been using the Weber Cubes, 3.99 for convenience. I may use the old container and make my own out of parrifin and sawdust. My wife makes them in Dixie cups for the wood stove.
Definitely going to try the lump thing as my bag of Royal Oak is down to mostly little pieces. Also considering adding a little rubbing alcohol to the newspaper. Lately I've been pouring a bit of veg oil onto the newspaper.
