    Kingsford's Value Size ?

I was down to my last two bags of Kingsford when I made my run to HD for their sale. When I got home I noticed that the bags were different. I did pose on the sale thread, "Honey I Shrunk Thr Bags", but it was near the end of the interest end of things. So, I thought I would just drop a note to all that we are being hosed as a consumer once again. It's like the shrinking ice cream containers sac. Oh well, so is life.
Also, there is a shot of the load in honor of Mr. Bones with my red cooler in place. Click image for larger version

It's been happening for quite a while now. The large Fries @ Burger King now come in a narrower container and underneath is an indentation upward, so while it looks the same, it's strategically a smaller container, same with Cereal, Ice Cream ... the list is endless. As consumers all we can do is take note and possibly contact the manufacturer and let them know that we know what there doing and are gonna keep an eye on them. There all suspect!

In fact, I can remember when Doritos first went National, the year - 1983. I was working in a market, a saleman came in and was showing off this incredible new Tortilla chip. I remember him opening the bag, it was filled to the very brim - today, the bag is half air.

The Royal Oak Lump bags are a little smaller too. I made the HD run on Sunday too. I had to stop at another store for some pellets as well. Stocked up for now! Click image for larger version

Hate to ruin everybody's day, but I think Kingsford is doing what is called "price testing"

AZ started getting 18.8 LB 2 packs about 2 years ago. We saw 20 and 18.8 in the stores for a while (same price), and then one of the holiday weekends (with the half price deal) saw the complete disappearance of the 20LB bags.

      Yours are 18.6 LB

I've seen 16.6 and 15.4 LB sizes as well.

I guess it means we stay stocked up on the biggest size we can find, as the bags slowly shrink.

      Best regards,
      Jim

My HD always has the double 18.6 bag. I have seen it in other stores in a 15.4 double bag, for a higher price. Ever since I started buying the value packs, they have been 18.6lb bags in the Baltimore area. Am I going to complain about 37.2 lbs of charcoal for $10? Hell no!

I remember when candy bars were a nickel apiece and, if you bought five, they threw in one for free. Even then, though, Almond Joy and Mounds were a dime. Did I ever tell you about how I had to walk nine miles to school, uphill both ways?

What I was wonderin was, da ya think Kingsford thought we would'nt notice, & here we plaster it on this site of all places. And, why did'nt mom give two small red potatoes, one for each pocket. And, that 10 cent Baby Ruth would have been enough rocket fuel for a week. Today they would call it child abuse and ban it or tax it.

I use royal oak, get it at home depot or Walmart. Massachusetts, Walmart drops it from their stock in the fall and home depot carries over the winter. The two stores have always (I've noticed for about a year..) carried two different size bags. Walmart I believe and will confirm once they start carrying it again in spring, was 17.6 lbs. The home depot bags I recently got were 17.0.

As I recall Meathead asked Kingsford about this last year. They said it's the same amount of char so you'll get the same burn time. Tagging so he can confirm.

Yep, Mh mentioned they (Kford) said they redid their briquet formula and each is slightly lighter, so 18.6lbs is the same total burn time as 20lbs previously. In my area the bags have been 18.6lbs for a good year, maybe 2 now. It was a big topic of conversation when the switched first happened. I can't tell any difference.
