    Home Depot

Not sure if anyone has a Home Depot in their area but I went online and ordered three bags of Royal Oak large briquettes for $9 a bag yesterday after lunch. It said free delivery and tomorrow was my delivery date. So just finishing lunch now and the FedEx truck pulls in and drops my three bags off. Amazing a free delivery on such a small order. That may help some of you if you are in a rural area as I am. It is 25 miles to WalMart for me and 40 in either direction to a city with a Home Depot or similar store. Also free delivery on other brands but I wanted a few ot those.

I'm in a similar range from both Walmart and Home Depot as you. I've purchased charcoal and random construction supplies (some heavy) on a few occasions from Home Depot's website to take advantage of their free delivery. It makes it well worth it, especially if you find something on sale and don't have to pay heavy item shipping.

I found it funny when I ordered 10 bags of charcoal last spring that all 10 came individually boxed. I had 10 rather large cardboard boxes on hand afterward. A side effect I wasn't planning on!

It is funny how the big guys ship things sometimes but never heard one that bizarre. A trip to the recycle for sure

They did the same to me. I wasn't home and I get a call from the wife asking me what I just bought.

Update, I checked in the garage and all three bags were in one large box.

Thanks. I just ordered 4 bags for delivery tomorrow and got my veteran’s discount deducted from the listed price.

We're kind of in a similar situation, logistically, in what will be our retirement home. Nearest Walmart is in the 25 mile range. We recently learned they'll deliver to us, free, with a Walmart Plus account (which also comes with Paramount or Peacock), so we signed up for one. We're in a rural area with limited local shopping, so glad to be able to get some stuff without driving an hour round trip (particularly with the price of gas).

I really like the Cowboy brand charcoal from Walmart. It burns hot, clean and has less ash than KBB. Usually, it is about $20 for two 20lb bags. A great value although I would buy it even it cost more than KBB.

I just ordered four 20lb bags. They sent me an email that said they were out of 20lb bags. So, instead they delivered 4 40lb bags for the same price. How do they run a business like that?

I am happy to have a whole summer season of charcoal. But I have a bad back and can't carry a 40lb bag up the stairs to my patio (I live on a hillside). So, I am off-loading into buckets. But thank you Wally World for the generosity. And I highly recommend the Cowboy brand charcoal.

I didn't know there was a 40 lb bag. Great score for you.
Glad the delivery from Wally's worked out for you. I've had issues with charcoal delivery from them so only buy in person now.

A few years ago it was mentioned here that Walmart was running a special on B&B. I ordered 12 bags that were delivered. About a week later another 12 bags were delivered that I hadn’t ordered. Called them to report the mistake. Their customer service, after a few pauses on hold, told me just to keep them at no charge.

I typically use cowboy when on vacation. It seems to have lots of scrap wood (like pieces of molding for example) in it. Not necessarily a bad thing, but worries me a bit. Burns hot and does the job for grilling though. For smoking my favorite is Rockwood. On my medium big green egg it lasts a long time which is really nice because it only hold so much!

Got a pop up ad from HD this morning about a four bag bundle of 20# bags of Embers brand briquettes, looks like it's made by Royal Oak. Priced at .50 per lb, with no charge delivery. I don't use briquettes so don't have an opinion on the quality of these, but if you're a fan here's an opportunity.

Lowe's has free delivery too, not sure if there is a maximum distance though.

A couple years I did not renew Amazon Prime. I was able to find the same, if not better prices from other sources, along with free shipping. And Home Depot got a lot of my business because of their free shipping, on any item, no matter the cost.

But Amazon got me last fall with the Thursday Night NFL game.
