    Kingsford wood infused briquettes

Just got home from the grocery store and while I was browsing the charcoal aisle I noticed something I've never seen before, Kingsford briquettes with wood flavor. They had three different types, Apple, Hickory and Mesquite. I'm assuming this is a new product, has anyone tried it yet?

I think these have been around for a while. At least the hickory and mesquite versions. I remember trying the mesquite one years ago and not getting much out of it. I think you're better off with the standard blue bag and adding wood chunks.

I have just started seeing them at my local stores. Haven't tried them. Let us know if you do!

We've had that product for a couple of years here in OKC. Not that big a deal. Most folks just stick with Kingsford Bluebag.

I bought a couple of bags of the hickory. Meh. I'd recommend you just get Bluebag and wood chunks.

I'm pretty backed up on wood chunks right now thanks to fruitawood.com so it'll be mid summer before I even think about trying it. Maybe later this year but in the meantime, if anyone tries it please let us know your thoughts!

Got a hickory "flavored" as a gift and bought a mesquite "flavored" for a particular cook when I was told by a higher power that I HAD to follow a recipe that called for mesquite chips when I had none and was far away from a source. I was very nice and thanked everybody in the first instance and complied in the second. I now make sure I have bags of various chips and chunks on hand to supplement basic Blue and Cowboy chunk so I can control the level of added would essence.

Agreed here, blue and chunks of wood. Don't fool with their white bag o "lump" either. I prefer blue back in my cheep smoker/grill because in it, regular lump burns too fast, and their "lump" briquettes burn even faster than the other lump I've used.

had em here in Texas for a while. Dont waste your money to little "wood" to make a difference. just stick with the good ol blue!

I agree with most here too. What are the reasons you'd want to use it? For the 'wood' aspect? Use wood then! To me it's like buying powdered milk that claims it tastes more like regular milk.

They're just a gimmick. The amount of sawdust in a briquet is minute.

Well Ive never tried these but I'm inspired to give them a run just to see what they do in an SnS on some chicken. Watch this space.

I've tried than and they work, but I would rather control what wood, how much and when.

What MG said. I guess if I didn't grill and smoke a lot, having a small bag of briquettes already containing particular types of chips would be convenient.
