I run a Weber Summit Charcoal Grill. I picked up a bag of "The Good Charcoal" at Sam's and absolutely love it. The start up smoke "flavor" is on point to me. Smaller lump producing high heat is exactly what I was looking for. Low ash compared to briquettes. Easy to use leftovers. Easy to like this charcoal.

If I were limited to only one option for charcoal, it would be Cowboy Briquettes.
It works equally well for hot and fast or low and slow, and is readily available at Wally World for less than .50 per pound.

A few years back I moved to B&B, but was recently gifted 4 bags KBB by someone that was switching over completely to pellet. I have used it a couple of times now for both grilling and smoking, and I now remember why I switched in the first place. It burned much faster and left a lot of ash. I might give the Kirkland brand a try if my Costco still has it in stock, but otherwise I am going to stay with B&B.

I have seen a steady supply of Kirkland Briquettes at my Costco this year, been stocking up assuming the supply will disappear in the “off season” but for 0.46 cents/lb it’s a good value. I have found it does run hot in my PBC but so does Kingsford Professional.Originally posted by Panhead John View PostA lot of us are really liking the Kirkland’s brand charcoal from Costco. It’s just as good as Kingsford and much cheaper……if you can find it. It seems to be hit and miss as far as any stores having it.

I bought around a dozen bags of Kingsford Professional a couple years ago during a sale. Still have 5 bags left with one working in the bin on my Performer. I use my pellet cooker more than the kettle by far so it’ll last a while yet. It’s been fine for my needs. Smokes a ton of that smelly bad smoke at start up though. But that’s long gone by the time it’s ready to cook.

I loved the Weber lump but sadly it is no more. Though I still have 3 bags left from the $3.00 sale a few years ago.
I use Fogo lump I like it better than briquettes. With the BGE you are supposed to use lump so I use it for my other charcoal cookers as well.

For grilling, I use Cowboy from Costco cause it’s so cheap. IMHO, It’s not ideal for smoking but for quick heat it works fine. To get more charcoal, I often throw a few wood chunks in my kamados when I shut everything down. Then I make my own partially carbonized charcoal.
The great thing about lump is it relights better than KBB. I find the KBB tends to absorb a lot of moisture, especially after it’s been lit and extinguished.
