    A box of lump charcoal. One box, one lump.

    I was going through my old photos today and I found this that I was supposed to post here a while back. It was at Carrefour, which is now sadly closing. This will make it a lot harder to get any quality ingredients locally without ordering them online. They had the only decent meat grinder in the city for making hamburger meat. There's one at another grocery store but they always get pissy when I ask them to grind meat because they don't want to clean it afterwards. It's a box of lump charcoal, of the type I had bought before. It was flapping open at the store and I took a photo to share. Hey, I suppose it's better than the usual mix of lumps, useless fragments, and pound of powder that you usually get in these boxes. I have since stopped buying any kind of charcoal from the store and get briquets online as they're much easier to deal with.

        Lack of business, I suppose. They put it in a part of town that's a bit out of the center, and the location should have grown into it because there are a ton of new apartments in the area. I guess the numbers weren't what they wanted. Sucks, it was a decent Western supermarket brand and those are hard to come by. The only other one in China is Auchan which, if Carrefour is leaving, probably won't be coming by. We have 3 Wal-marts but they're not like American Wal-marts, they're just local stores that got bought out and converted. They're almost indistinguishable from the generic local brands like Trust-Mart, Duomi, etc. I'm going to miss the butcher counter, after an initial period of surliness I got to where I knew one of the men there and he'd cut pieces of meat for me just like I liked them.
