    Lump charcoal observation.

Local grocery store had a clearance on betterwood lump charcoal.
I normally don’t use lump, but great price, and a pretty good review on naked whiz, so I grabbed a bag to try it. I used it last night in my kettle. After the cook I shut all the vents down, and sat down to eat.
45 minutes later I came back to clean up and my grill was stone cold. I literally held my hand on it and felt no heat.
I was a bit shocked that the fire had snuffed so completely, so quickly. I’ve never had a briquette fire smother so quickly. Not even ones with minimal binder.
Is this a normal thing for lump?

I use a Kamado. I would say it snuffs out quickly, but the ceramic holds heat a long time. I have not used it in a metal cooker.

That’s normal and one of the reasons I prefer lump to briquettes - that and it produces a lot less ash!

I use lump in my BGE and Lone Star Adjustable and it does seem to snuff out pretty fast.
