I have been using Kingsford briquettes since I was in third grade in the 1950's. Last month visiting Costco I saw a Kirkland brand of briquettes that were considerably cheaper than my customary Kingsford 2 pack briquettes. Has anyone used them? What experience have you had with them in terms of heat production, longevity and "taste." I have stuck with Kingsford but was wondering about the comparison. Always interested in saving money, if it doesn't sacrifice quality.
Here's a link to another post reviewing Costco charcoal. Have not seen it at my Costco so I have no opinion either way (except cheaper is usually better).
I commented in the post xrodbob linked to, but since then I’ve probably used the Kirkland brand 5 or 6 times now and I really like it. For grilling I’d say it’s every bit as good as Kingsford BB and I will continue buying it..[Kirkland] I haven’t done any long smokes with it, so I can’t comment on its longevity. If I was doing a blind comparison test with both brands, I wouldn’t be able to tell you which one is which.
I like the Kirkland brand very much. It seems to burn longer than Kingsford and produce less ash. Brickettes are larger than Kingsford and seem more "solid". I've used it several times now and I think I'll be switching over to exclusively. It's also cheaper than Kingsford in my area.
