There are several Latin American grocery stores near me. I always find some Brazilian or other South American lump for sale there. Sometimes it’s a totally No name brand like this stuff from Paraguay. Always has good size chunks and, despite it being imported, is always cheaper than American brands. Go figure.

How much does the fancy packaging of some of the USA brands cost and is it really necessary? The plain label packaging you have on the bag in the pic is fine by me. Thank you JCBBQ this will give me an excuse to shopping in a store without self-checkout.

I’ve got to look for a deal like that. I went to Academy to get my usual B&B oak and they were out of all B&B except the XL premium. What a disappointment that stuff is. The pieces aren’t any larger than regular B&B lump and burns just like the regular. The big difference is the price. It was 32.00 dollars a 20 pound bag.

Academy in Amarillo Texas hasn’t had B&B lump for several months and Champion BBQ in Amarillo is no longer stocking it.
            What is going on?

I do the same but the Mexican market by me only carries small bags.

Probably comes from random tropical rainforest trees...

It’s mesquite. Costco even has it in AZ. Noticed it there yesterday for less than $19 for a 40 lb bag. It’s great stuff, I’ve been using it for years. A product of Mexico.

Pretty good store. Good produce and the meat and fish are great. I always get my Picanha there, fyi.

I am in Miami. Fogo is a local brand, even if it is imported.

I like Fogo but not enough to consistently pay what they ask for it around NJ

JCBBQ Royal Oak makes the lump for Big Green Egg. BGE gets first choice for the larger lumps, but the stuff in the red bags is also good.

The red Royal Oak is typically what is most available here in NJ. I’ve used it for years. No complaints. If I have a choice I usually just go for the cheaper lump. I’m not that picky. But it is nice to get both size and cheap.

I'm gonna have to try one of the Supermarcados down in north Tulsa for this. I actually was super impressed by one the other day and we spent almost $100 on fruit and veggies, got a ton of peppers and made 3½ gallons of pork chile verde. And MANGOS! They had REAL. GOOD. MANGOS! I mean, the crap they get once in a while in WalMart is embarrassing, but these mangos, you could actually SMELL THEM when you walked by the display! It was amazing! And the big Caribbean avocados! oh man... if ya'll haven't had them, the small ones are the size of a grapefruit! Where my wife is from, you can get avocados the size of our canteloupe! W00T!

Anyways... I'll have to go back and check for lump charcoal next time we're down there.
