Just got back fr Costco. Talked to a guy in the back. He went on his puter n came back with, "They are in the pipeline. We do not have them yet."

I went to Costco in Southlake Texas on 8/7/23, only sold Kingsford Pro at no discount. B&B at either Academy or Walmart was much cheaper.

Seems I’m late to the party on this, but that’s how it usually goes in Iowa. Lol

We make a monthly trip to Costco in Iowa City Iowa and I always buy the 2 pack of Kingsford Pro.

This time in addition to those, they had the Kirkland Briquettes. $18 for the 2 pack of 20lbs.

Grabbed them faster than I could say briquette and tried them for a couple of reverse seared NY Strips on my Weber kettle (w/SnS insert)

LOVED them. Started fast with my chimney, burned hot and no noticeable difference in ash.

Hopefully they become a regular item here in Iowa.

I've only used it one time, but I seem to get a better sear with the Kirkland brand. More testing needed.

I have not seen these briquettes yet in Michigan. I will be excited to try them. Costco did bring back the Prime ribeye cap steaks so I picked up a few of those today. I feel bad for the poor suckers that buy the plain prime ribeyes with the cap stripped off for $21/lb.

The Pro stuff by both vendors seems like the surface is smoother, and they are more dense. I prefer that for longer cooks, and regular Kingsford for grilling, along with tiny splits of wood.

Maybe a tighter press, or different binder? Whatever works.

I don’t like lump b/c 1/2 the bag has too many small pieces that fall through the grates and a lot of dust. ☹️

Just returned from Costco in St. Louis, Missouri, the Rusty Road location. House brand is now in stock as others have described: 2 x 20 Lb bags, shrink wrapped together.

          The mythical charcoal has arrived!!
Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_2205.jpg Views:	0 Size:	4.87 MB ID:	1588158 Did I get any? No I didn’t 😳. I didn’t re-up on brisket either 😰 I’m trying to work my way further through my charcoal pantry before I get more. And I want them to stock more prime briskets so I can get one of those. I’m always tellin’ my kids that we vote with our dollars!! Especially at Costco where they restock what sells. I did get a two pack of prime ribeye’s in preparation for National Ribeye Day! I’ll be grilling those over lump. 🔥🔥🐿️

No Kirkland charcoal in Southlake, TX on 4/22/24. Just Kingsford Professional 2 bags @18 lbs. for almost $23.00.

Same in Houston although I’m a K Pro guy so at least they have that. I can swing either way !!

I bought a bag of the Kirkland Pro here in NJ and I’ve never noticed such poor performance in a charcoal. I’m not the type to get too fixated on the charcoal but for me this is worse than Kingsford regular in every way that matters except maybe price. It doesn’t hold a candle (so to speak) to Kingsford Competition or whatever they call their premium stuff. It takes longer to light and definitely does not burn as hot. I have no idea if it’s a YMMV thing or they changed the wood content but my experience with it has been unpleasant.
