    Academy Sports

They recently opened a location the other side of town from me, and I was thinking I should take a peek. However, I am wondering if they have a charcoal sale over the upcoming holiday. I'd like to try B&B charcoal, but will wait if a sale is upcoming.

You should definitely check it out Ron! They have a great BBQ section of the store! Lots of cookers, accessories, rubs and sauces, charcoal and wood, etc. However, it’s been my experience they don’t do charcoal sales like HD or Lowe’s. They’ve got the best prices on B & B charcoal anyway, for the most part and it’s also not readily available in too many places anyway…….based on my experience here in Houston, your mileage may vary.

RonB If you haven’t used B & B before, just a little tip. A lot of us use both B & B and KBB. I use the Kingsford for grilling and save the B & B for smoking…KBB does just fine for grilling, I save the B & B for smoking because it’s a little more expensive and it’s superior to KBB for low and slow.

Grab the B&B when it's available; it doesn't really ever go on sale at Academy, which consistently has it at a lower price than anywhere else.

I felt slightly guilty buying what I thought was mispriced B&B at Academy for awhile, but that's the actual price there.

Yes, get the B & B at Academy. As everyone has said, it’s cheaper there than anyplace else. I tried a couple bags of HEB when they opened, but now I’m back. Can’t beat B & B.

It's a 30 or 40 minute drive for me, but I guess I should check it out before stocking up on KBB over Memorial Day.

    Thanks John.

Too bad they won't come across the border we need more options up here.

Apparently they won't even come across the Mason / Dixon line..
It would be great to have one nearby..

RonB I have been to that one a couple of times and they have the best prices on B&B briquettes I have been able to find. I can't find it on their website but it has been in the store when I have been there. They also do a have a very respectable selection of accessories, grills, smokers, rubs, sauces, etc. I have switched from KBB to Royal Oak Chef's Select now to B&B briquettes. Both because they seem to work pretty well in my pits and they are easier to get.

I would definitely say it is worth the trip across the river and braving short pump traffic.

I drove the 40 minutes to the closest Academy this afternoon. I wound up buying 2 bags of the B&B charcoal, and a new spider. The spider was less than 6 bucks, and will replace one I have had for years and never liked.
