I did not know a bleach company owns KBB. I came across this article regarding them rethinking their marketing strategy. They bumped $ where competitors didn't. Here is the article.

Interesting. Glad that it backfired. I noticed that the Kingsford professional went up at Costco and I took a hard pass. I’m still working on my B&B that I bought from Walmart when it was posted here for $9.99 bag.

Backyard Jambo, T1000 Woodmaster, MAK 2 star, 14" & 22" WSM, 2x 22" Weber Kettle, Stoven, Hot Box Grill, Hasty Bake Ranger, RecTeq Bullseye, GMG Davy Crockett; Original Grilla and others I'm not remembering!
Clorox has owned Kingsford for years and years and years!
Consolidation is happening in every industry for some time now. B&B is owned by Duraflame, which also owns Western Wood and Barbecue Wood Flavors. Those 3 companies are a big chunk of the BBQ wood business.

Found it -- it's the CHIVAS REGAL effect, where shoppers equate a higher price tag with greater value. This is attributed to Chivas doubling the price of their product in the 1940's, leading to an increase in sales from what people perceived to be a premium productOriginally posted by JLR View PostTheir best marketing strategy would be to lower their price.

From the article:
"Clorox's competitors in its other categories closely followed the price hikes it announced in December, Jacobsen said."
The way I read that - Clorox was disappointed that the other charcoal makers didn't follow along (tacit collusion style) with them in raising their charcoal prices like some of Clorox's competitors did in some of their other product markets.
So sad.

I like KBB for starters. B&B and lump for long cooks. CharLogs are good for extended cooks, when ACE has them on sale.
