    Homeade Lump

Inspired by others I finally got around to trying my hand at some homemade lump charcoal.

Before the galvanized police come at me. I understand what zink and fire do. The inner vessel was burned out prior to this test.

I'm hoping tomorrow I got some 100% white oak lump. Cant wait!

    WATCH THIS SPACE!

Good day to do a batch. Working on dialing in the "cook time". Besides beats the heck out of cleaning the house. I do have several batches under my belt now. Getting ready for the spring yard season to ramp this up. Still thinking on a practical storage solution.

                          In the light of day:

The Ash wood is as I expected. Not all that dense. One stick was unfinished. (forgot what thats called) Next batch I'll run some Maple. Thats the next big tree I have thats going to go. Seems that seasoned Maple is a bit less dense than Ash so that stuff may be kind of light weight.

                          DENSITY
                          Maple 39-47 lb/ft3

                          Ash 40-53 lb/ft3
