Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I use KBB in my Weber Kettle. In previous years, the ash was gray, and finer, and I only needed to empty the ash catcher after every fourth cook or so. Now, the ash is brownish, and granular, and the ash catcher is full after two cooks.
Is it just me, and my faulty memory? Or are others having the same experience? As long as I get the same BTUs per bag, and the same burn rate, it really doesn’t matter, I guess.
When I was having problems maintaining temperatures in my PBC last winter, someone at PBC tech support told me that they thought that KBB had recently been reformulated to produce more ash.(They suggested that I try a low-ash brand and that did help me maintain temperatures.)

KBB ash is diving me nuts. I’m burning regular KBB and the consistency is the same, almost a fine powder. The volume of ash, though seems higher. I’ve never been impressed with Weber’s as removal system and I end up brushing most of it into the ash catcher. I’m reluctant to change fuel, though, because KBB is reasonably priced, is consistent, and I know how it burns.
