    Can charcoal go bad?

Found a (date unknown) bag of Matchlight in the bowels of the storage area. No idea how old it is, but for discussion purposes, let's say it's likely 8+ years old. Probably 10+, but at this point, who's counting?

It should still be good to use, right? Charcoal can't spoil, can it?

I mean, unless it is been dunked in water and crumbles when you open the bag, I say fire It up. It might not last long but hey, it was a free surprise right?

TVWB did a video on this.

It is fine. It might not light with a match anymore, but that is not a big deal. IF it got wet then it might just turn to dust, otherwise it is carbon. That stuff lasts for millions of years. Longer if it becomes a diamond.

But if it becomes a diamond, it won't burn anymore, so apparently charcoal does go bad eventually.

Yes, as SmokeyGator says, millions of years! We are all safe. I will start tellin my friends that my collection of charcoal will last millions of years, which is why I bought so much.

If it was stored in a dry place for that time, then it should be fine. I am sure the fuel* contained in it to make it "Matchlight' has evaporated long ago. But he carbon should be fine. Charcoal is hygroscopic, so it will soak up moisture if left to its own devices. If it was stored properly, it might be okay.

If it burns, it will be just fine.
