jfmorris Even well cooked, perfectly done chicken breast wouldn't help. Stir fry? She doesn't like rice or anything Asian flavor inspired. Zero Chinese, Vietnamese, Cantonese, or Japanese foods. But thank you for the advice!
We've been together since 1987, then married for 39 years. It's easier to list what she does eat, rather than what she won't. I can probably count the number of times I've seen her eat chicken on one hand. Small bites, not enough to finish a whole chicken breast. Same with ham. Never pork, unless you count hotdogs made from pork. But she prefers all beef dogs, and literally only eats those maybe 4-5 times a year? Steak? Never. No roasts, stews, or soups with chunks in them. Sloppy Joe's are ONLY way she'll eat beef (her dad's recipe, which we have).
She only likes pasta with marinara sauce (no meat), or with pesto. Never alfredo sauce. White sauce (anything with cream, really, including whipped cream) gives her texture issues. She doesn't like how it feels. Even if it's super tasty. Mac & Cheese, yes. Oddly enough she will eat cream cheese (only on bagels), and sometimes cottage cheese (rarely). Toast with peanut butter also works. She likes pancakes, not really waffles.
She'll eat Pasta salad, regular leaf salad (only green leaf lettuce, no onions, no tomatoes, no olives. Just lettuce, cheese, croutons, maybe those julienne carrots, and ranch dressing. Potatoes, but it's either well-done hash browns (julienne style), tator-tots, or french fries. Mashed? Maybe a couple spoon-fuls around the holidays, that's it. She's ok with most Italian dishes without meats in them, but prefers Penne or Rotini pasta with marinara and cheese. And lots and lots of Parmesan cheese.
She's good with "some" cheeses. Bleu cheese, or any stronger cheese, like extra sharp cheddar or Swiss? Nope. She's not vegan or vegetarian (it bugs her when family members make fun of her about not eating meat), she eats bacon, but not sausages. Sometimes, she'd eat a bologna sandwich when she was younger, but found out about nitrates/nitrites, so very little now.
She will eat Mexican, but only cheese quesadillas, cheese enchiladas (no other filling, so it's just a rolled up quesadilla) maybe with their red sauce if it's not chunky, hates the white creamy cheese they serve with nachos and other stuff sometimes. She doesn't like onions in things, but will eat sauces and stuff with them, but it has to be so finely chopped, as to be undetectable. Onion powder is far easier to blend in. Garlicky stuff, but once again, only powdered.
Pizza, cheese with pepperonis, but prefers just cheese. If I add anything else, it better be a separate pizza.
She grew up with a mom who mainly cooked from cans, a lot of ready-made stuff, so not really true home-made cooking. She would've starved to death in my family. When we used to spend holiday dinners with her mom, me and the other in-laws smiled and cleaned our plates. Nothing too inedible, but definitely lacking in flavor and variety. It was about visiting, not so much eating.
So aaaaanywayyy, I think you get the point. I hope I didn't come off sounding critical. I've learned to live with it, and stopped (many years ago) offering her something to try. She likes what she likes, and that doesn't change much at all.
So, yeah, most of my smoking/grilling has zero effect on her. MCS is more like WACS (why another cooker syndrome).

Wowsa! I've got some "picky" in-laws (chicken, but no bone in chicken or skin, and no pork), but that is kinda over the top. As you say, she probably would have starved at my parent's house too growing up.
At least she lets you have what you like, and you have developed an idea of what to make for her (if anything?) when you are cooking stuff you like.
I think you would be better served with a nice gas fired pizza oven, than another smoker of any sort. Just a thought.
jfmorris and Uncle Bob I just looked up smoker rentals. Actually found a place renting out Meadow Creek products, but they are way over past Dayton. Long haul for anyone over in Columbus area. Basically, nothing I could find with a simple google search nearby that even gets close to this smoker. Just a flat open gas grill here and there. There may be hope yet!

Ah, it's been sold... Well, can't say I never had indecision before. Especially on things that may or may not cause me to sleep on the couch for the rest of my life!
