I have a POS Masterbuilt 40" Electric Smoker that doesn't heat anymore. I replaced the control panel and the element/wire connectors, but it didn't help. Are there any suggestions on how to either try something else to make it work or even some possible modifications I can make so it doesn't completely go to waste? I mean, other than the fact that it doesn't work, it's relatively still in pretty good shape. (Wish I had read the review here before I purchased it.)

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

My Masterbuilt quit working also, searched online and found this is a common problem. One of the element wires basically burns the connector off in the back. I found some high heat connectors on Amazon and soldered both sides to the new connectors even though obviously only one side was broken. I did this 4 years ago and the unit is still working.

When I first replaced the heating element itself, it still heated just not to a temperature above 150 degrees. When I told Masterbuilt this they then sent me a new control panel and after replacing it it quit heating all together. That's when I went ahead and replaced the connectors, but it still didn't work.

I have seen somewhere, (probably here), that you can buy a kit to add a pellet pooper. That would involve cutting a hole and attaching the kit. It might work for you.

Sounds like Redwng has the answer. To stay electric you could try adding a new element. Here is a link for an electric conversion that might give you some ideas. http://virtualweberbullet.com/gas-an...nversions.html

Yeah, I found that same element on Amazon and thought that maybe replacing the one Masterbuilt sent me with this one might help, but I'm not sure how I'd get it to produce smoke using the smoker's existing equipment. I guess I'd have to add a pellet tray and controller because I'd probably get tired of the analog temperature controller, too. Great ideas, thanks!
