Maybe another chili cookoff, this Sunday?

I dunno. I think I can win this; I came in 3rd last year, but I asked people questions about what they liked and didn’t like, and why they liked the winner, and the adjustments will be easy.

On the other hand, we were supposed to go away this weekend, but yesterday morning the pipes froze and I had to deal with that, and last night and tonight was/will be colder than Wednesday night was. (No frozen pipes this morning.) The point is, I wasn’t planning on making chili for this weekend. But I have everything though, I might need a couple small things, but I got all the big stuff. But I’m not psyched about playing this weekend. Plus, the folks running it are nice*, and the people who frequent their bar are nice, but it’s a hundred people whom I don’t know and have nothing to say to. It’s fun to cook, it’s fun to compete, but actually being there during the competition wasn’t all that great.

I’ll do a kitchen inventory and decide, I guess.

So, what did people like about your chili and what didn't they like? What did they like about the winning chili? Inquiring minds want to know.

In my world I’d have to get the wife’s honest opinion on whether she wanted to go this weekend or not. If she wants to go then I’d go, if not it’s game on. Nothing wrong with chalking up a win!

I made it last year with cubed beef. It’s a people’s choice thing, not with real judges, and a lot of people told me that mine tasted the best but they didn’t like the texture.

We have to list our ingredients, ostensibly because of allergies. The winning chili had like coffee and cocoa or some such crap in it, and they mistook that for la-de-da fancy chef crap. Frankly, that’s what the winning chili was, fancy la-de-da chef crap. While I thought it was a decent stew, it was all over the place. All breadth and no depth.

I’m going to enter, mostly just to get out on a freaking cold day. It should be interesting, at least. The show starts at noon, so I get to make the chili the day before and take advantage of the overnight melding of flavors.
