This contest is in the books! Sorry for the tardy posting. With 2nd in cocktail, I was off to a good start!
In the meats, brisket was my best at 15th! A friend brought this to me at the contest. It’s a waygu from Costco. I had to trim it on site. It was very good and fed lots of folks after the contest. Ended up as shepherds pie. Sorry photo won’t load! I have a very slow internet connection
You bet it was good! Should have taken a picture for before and after. Boiled and mashed 2 Yukon gold taters. Chopped the last cup of brisket put it in a skillet and heated with a tablespoon of flour. Made gravy with last of beef stock and added about half a small bag of mixed veggies. Served first meal with brisket mix in bowl and a scoop of taters on top. Next day I smoothed mashed taters on top, finished with grated cheddar cheese and baked until hot. Good stuff!
I forget something every contest. This one the bag of rubs was left at home. I borrowed (begged) rubs from my neighbor, Blind Hog. Smoking Guns Hot and Cimmaron Doc were what I used. Chicken was mostly a Cajun seasoning called Fruge that I had with SGH on top for some color. Everything else seasoned with the 2 begged rubs. I did have my sauces.
pork was not notable. 22nd ribs and 20th pork. Overall finish was 20 out of 33 teams.
Right before awards catastrophe hit! My awning failed and sprung all the way out!
A friend and former customer led two young men on the top of the van roof to secure it with bungee cords and zip ties. I made it home, stayed on backroads. Van has been in repair shop for over a week now, waiting for new motor.
I am seriously considering hanging up my competition hat. Rumor has it that Johnny Trigg is looking for a Baby Jambo and resale value on my van is high. 2 days ago I tripped and fell and sprained my good knee. Doing the comp thing will be very difficult.

Congrats, CandySueQ , on your spectacular scores at that highly competitive BBQ event. You're one of the top Pitmasters in the country, for sure.
As much as you love competition 'Q, I hope you decide to wait until both your van and your knee are healed before you sell off. That said, no one would blame you if you did. You've had a long and illustrious career on the road, and have accumulated lots of BBQ laurels on which to rest.
I've always admired your grit to stay in the game and to excel like you have. You've done a lot to inspire people in BBQ, especially women, me included. You deserve the rest, should you go through with your plans to step away from the circuit.
LSG Adjustable Grill/Smoker, MAK Pellet Grill, Large BGE with Several Attachments from the Ceramic Grill Store, Weber Genesis E335 Gasser, Cast Iron Pans & Griddle, Grill Grates, Mostly Thermoworks Thermometers, Anova SV Stick, BBQ Guru Controller and Fan
Congratulations on those scores. Your entries look great.
Stepping away from competition is a huge decision for you. I suggest not deciding until after your knee heals and your van is fixed. Then you can see if you still have the bug to compete or if it really is time to hang ‘em up. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck and nothing but happiness.
