Just happened to check the Hasty-Bake website, wondering when the annual cook-off was, and it is today!!! Have always wanted to go, just to check out how others use and set-up for various things. So I'm sure I'll swing by.
If you plan on being there, either as a spectator or competitor, let me know... I'll say hello.
I don't own a Hasty Bake grill... Yet. I happen to think they might actually be the finest grill/smoker available. The ability to raise your hot coal up or down at anytime is a fantastic idea. They have had that feature for about 50 years. Why other grill makers havent copied this great idea bewilders me.
I really enjoyed this. Spent about six hours walking from tent to tent, visiting with competitors, and sampling some great food. The awards ceremony was delayed, as a storm was rolling in and they were focused on getting everything cleaned up and put away. I left as it stated to rain, so I didn't find who won. I have my favorite in mind, but the guy actually didn't turn those in. (Shrimp) others I spoke too werejust as impressed with them as I was. Lots of pics taken, but I feel odd posting pics of others cooks.
I'll sort thru them then, and get some posted. Guessing I have about 120 pics, from various stages of the cooks. It will probably be after I get my Short Ribs started tonight.
Sorry for the delay. I did get the pics whittled down quite a bit. All the competitors were very friendly and willing to share info. Several encouraged me to enter next year, and I think I may. It is very relaxed and laid back, more of a block party cookout type event, with some Hasty-Bakes given out to the top three overall. I would say that just because it's not a highly serious competition, it doesn't mean there aren't any seriously talented cooks though...
My apologies if these are too many pics, and if this should have been in the competition channel.
