The Holy Smokes BBQ Festival
This looks pretty interesting.
To the plus side of the ledger:
1) It doesn’t look all that crowded. Not that it never would get crowded, but I’ve heard Lockhart gets elbow to elbow during the Texas Monthly BBQ Fest.
2) Although the lineup skews local, it is absolutely national. Notice: Leroy & Lewis, Bob Gibson, Das BBQ, Feges, Truth, ZZQ, Tuffy Stone, Pig Beach, etc. Those are just the names I recognize!
On the minus side of the ledger, it is right at the edge of a one day drive for me, Waze says 11 hours 15 minutes, Google Maps says 11 hours 44 minutes. I could break that in half if I wanted to, but two extra hotel rooms means I might as well fly, and then that means a rental, and then that puts it out of the budget.
$75 presale is eminently reasonable. $250 for the VIP… well, that’s a little steep I think, considering there’s not a lot more for the extra $175. The Special Chef VIP Area would have to include some hands on tutelage.
I dunno. I could do this, but wouldn’t be disappointed if I missed it, either.
