Has anyone used a blower like the Fireboard G3 or the Thermoworks Billows on a Slow and Sear Kamado? If so, how did you mount it.

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." ~Benjamin Franklin
Welcome to the posting side of the Pit! While I have an SnSK I've never used a blower so I'm no help. I would look on youtube, someone might have posted a video about it.
I grew up in Plano. Frisco was just a flashing red light and a country store/ gas station back then. I'm amazed when I see it now.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Frisco Smoke I have the first generation SNS Kamado, and use this adapter to mount a fan:
The Ceramic Style Adapter* fits most medium to XL ceramic grills. The adapter is rectangle and can be installed on the short or tall side depending on the height of your original damper slide.
I use that with a BBQ Guru sourced fan.
I had to cut it down slightly in height however to fit into the track/rails for the sliding damper on the Gen1 SNSK. My understanding is the Gen2 SNSK makes the lower damper a little higher, and is more compatible with fans and fan adapters than the Gen1 SNSK that I have.
I'll dig around and see if I can find pics of it mounted.

Frisco Smoke I use this same adapter on my Large BGE and a BBQ Guru Fan & BBQ Guru Controller. It works good IMO. Just be sure to shut the Fan Damper to half closed or even a little more closed. I open the top vent just slightly. Ask me how I know this. I learned the the hard way.

I have the Gen2 and was looking at the plates for the Fireboard G3. I guess if they are too big I can cut them down.

I use a Smobot on my Big Green Egg. It functions differently than blowers. I’ve used a PartyQ blower on my Egg, but like the way the Smobot works better. Once it locks in the ambient temp usually is + or - less than 5 degrees. I am not sure if they have adapters for the SNS Kamado.

Thanks for the offer Oak Smoke - if you decide to look into it, let me know and I can get detailed measurements of the chimney opening.
Sadly, what might have worked as the starting point in an adapter would have been an extra top vent assembly from SNS. And I *had* one. The original had the plastic part that you grab to move the vent break off, and they sent me a new one. I tossed the original. Now I wish I had kept it, as it could have been hacked and modified to adapt the Smobot.

I will add that the first year I had the kamado, I was using it without a fan. Then I fell into using my PartyQ all the time. This year I've been back to relearning all the vents, and trying to use it without the fan again. I like the concept of the Smobot.
So do you leave the bottom vent fully open? I know in my case I open it maybe 1 inch for 250ish, 2 inches for 350-400, and all the way if I want to hit 700ish.

jfmorris Jim, they recommend leaving the bottom vent 1/2 to 1/3 open. I like 1/3 better than 1/2. My BGE bottom vent fully opened is 4. “ So, 1/3 is somewhere between 1” and 2.” When it starts to go too high the top vent completely shuts down and opens when the temp begins to drop.
