Nebraska Weather 2, My kamados 0

2 years ago it was my Vision kamado. Now it’s my Grilla Grills Kong. 100mph straight line winds are a heck of a thing… Ah well…Guess it’s time to shop again.

The bbq gods obviously don’t want me to own a kamado…or do they not want me in Nebraska? 🤔

Very sorry to see, sympathies. Perhaps given the situation a suitable replacement could be a Weber Kamado, it might get blown over but it won’t shatter.

What a shame. If I were getting a Kamado I would think hard about Blaze Cast Aluminum 20"
      They are bullet proof

I had an Akron kamado and the wind blew it off the deck, I was able to repair the damaged folding shelves and use it again, it did have dent in the top but it still worked. I liked that inexpensive kamado and used it a lot, I now have a Primo XL and it is too big for the two of us.

Dang this is tough. Sorry to see it. Hopefully insurance will pay it out.

I lost one of my Eggs this year. Only the straight line winds were my dad’s lack of patience and a tough patio!

In order for insurance to pay for it, the deductibles are so high with homeowners insurance, it’s just not feasible in most cases.

That hurts. Have you considered either making or purchasing a table to hold the kamado in and thus adding more mass and protecting the smoker against these winds? My son built a wood table to hold his BGE and the two together are very heavy. With the Weber Summit Kamado you can wheel it out of harm's way much easier than with a ceramic kamado.

A table is definitely one of my considerations now! I'm a slow learner. Lol

Hundred mile per hour winds are hurricane force winds. I am sure you get little warning that they are coming unless you stay glued to the weather channels. We get them here in Dallas, but only up to 60 to 70 mph. My heart goes out to you at the loss of you Kamado. I would hate to lose my Big Green Egg. Growing up in south Louisiana when we got word a hurricane was coming we tied everything down. Those Kamados are heavy so we have difficulty thinking wind can blow them over. I am hoping insurance might cover yours. Is you roof still okay? Those kind of winds can lift the shingle tabs.

Yeah, very unexpected. We knew there was a change for some severe weather, but those wind speeds were crazy. Still a lot of cleanup in Omaha going on. As for my roof, nothing looks off to the naked eye, but we're having someone do an assessment to be sure.

Sheet metal kamados would not shatter like the ceramic ones, but they are susceptible to bending and denting, especially lid and hinge, when thrown over by wind activity (ask me how I know). If you want the most indestructible kamado look at the Golden's Cast Iron kamado........it will laugh at 100 mph winds.....

              Sorry to see.

At least the PBC should survive the fall. But will probably roll away.

Oh yes. My PBC has withstood yet another severe storm. We shall smoke some ribs this weekend in recognition of its perseverance!

Get out of Nebraska! I left the Texas panhandle 6 years ago and have not regretted it yet. We lived half way between Dodge City Kansas and Amarillo Texas for 45 years. Click image for larger version

ID:	1630065 The two windiest cities in the country. It is hard to get others to believe just how windy it can get out on the plains. I’ve seen hurricane force winds without a cloud in the sky. Here’s a picture of a famous place in Amarillo about to have a panhandle day.

That’s the plan. Just waiting for the kiddos to finish up high school. Believe it or not, I’m not even from here! This is the 7th state I’ve lived in. Ready for my 8th. What was I thinking??

dtresca there’s still quite a bit of room in Texas. I can turn the FM radio on in my pickup and only get one station. That’s roomy!
