    Big Green egg purchase?

A coworker won a medium big green egg with a nest, but he has no interest in cooking and would like to sell. He is asking $400. Is this a fair price?

I would jump on it or would have followed him home

My only problem is....it’s a medium. That’s small really.

But the deal is solid. You can ALWAYS get your money back. Do it.

Well, the medium BGE with the diffuser plate probably will smoke as much meat as my 22" kettle with SNS. Assuming with a diffuser on a Kamado you can use pretty much the entire 18" grate, versus 2/3 of the 22.5" grate, the math puts space about equal for indirect. I would not pay full price for the medium, but sure would pay $400.

Absolutely. I wouldn’t pay full price for a medium (unless you are only doing smaller cooks) - but for $400 the deal is great. I’d jump on it just for when I want to cook less food or use it as a pizza oven!

Might also want to check the after-market for a grid extender that will fit the medium. That would definitely increase the capacity.

Pull $300 cash from your wallet. They’ll take it. But give ‘em the 4. Your conscience will be better served. And you will be a happy man!

I’ve cooked whole packers, and whole turkeys on my medium BGE prior to giving it to my son. It will cook a large amount of food and IMHO for $400.00 run don’t walk... that’s a great deal! Use it for a year or two and if it doesn’t work for you you’ll get all your money back selling it. Looking foreword to pics of your delicious medium BGE cooks. 😋

I own a medium and and love cooking on it. it not a huge grill surface but you can get an grill extender if you need extra space.

I stopped by a local big green egg dealer today and I think the deal looks a lot better. I think I’ll take him up on it. Thanks for all the feedback.

DO IT! Before someone else does. Go now. You can always sell it used for the same $400.

$400 is a once in a lifetime price for a BGE. Snatch it up!

I now own that egg. Thanks again for your input.

NICE! You are going to love it. Read the stickies here there is some good information in them. Other than that have fun with your new egg! There is a learning curve but it isn’t so bad

I've had my medium BGE for 5 years now, and it has served me well. Wished I'd the chance to pay only $400 back then for it!

I've got a buddy who had a next door neighbor move, and he paid $500 for a 3 year old large BGE. This is an additional one for him as he already has an extra large BGE!
