New Gasket and Dome Alignment for My Big Green Egg (Marta)

Well it is time to replace my gasket and the dome is due for a serious alignment. Right now, my BGE leaks pretty bad, really bad when I have the FireBoard drive hooked up.

I just ordered a new gasket and I will scrape the old one off and replace it with the new one from Gold Standard Gaskets. These last a long time, but after 5 years and countless cooks, it is time to replace it. These gaskets are a bit more. However, they are thicker, last longer and they seal really well over time. (In my experience anyway)

I am going to take the bands off the dome and base, get everything cleaned up and then re-do the alignment on the dome and base. This will also give me a chance to really clean the lid, scape any carbon on the under side so Marta is as good new! I can't wait to get this done, it will be so nice. I will post some pics of how I do it so others can check it out if they are curious.

    Peace!

    John

Good luck! Alignment can sometimes be a pain.

Thanks, it took years for me to get it really figured out. Now it goes pretty easy.

I looked at gaskets briefly for my Akorn and was thinking about this site. I wonder how the two gaskets compare.

I have used Lava lock before, they work pretty well. They just do not last as long.

Good to know. I will save your link for a future buy then.

18 months of cooks and the gaskets on my SNS Kamado are nice and dirty from soot and grease, but still seem to be sealing perfectly fine. They are far from the pristine black they started at.

The one "gasket" if you can call it that that I am not sure how I would replace is the felt I can feel down in the sliding lower vent area. I feel that use of a BBQ Guru fan adapter down there has messed it up a little.

So by dome you mean you are replacing the top vent, or just putting new gasket material where it seats on the ceramic up top?

I am replacing the bottom gasket (on the body of the Egg) and the upper gasket (on the underside of the lid) The top vent gasket is fine since I have a Stainless cap on top of the dome.

My original gasket lasted a year. I replaced it with a kevlar gasket that has lasted since then: 9? 10? 11? years.

Yep, that is what this one is. The change is worth it for sure.

Sounds like it needed it. I put a gasket on my traeger and it works great.

The gasket on the lid of my Primo came off last summer but I found that without it, the cooker sealed up nicely and passed the dollar bill test better than when it had the gasket.

Nice 👍 I’ve used that exact gasket too, it’s a winner for sure.
