    Akron Kamado start up

    The last two times I have used my Akron I sifted through the used charcoal and made sure the ash fell through the grate and this really shortened the start up time. I started it up this morning with the hot air gun, left the lid up and the fire was raging in no time. I am cooking turbo pulled pork today at 325F.

    I just stir the lump with the cleanout tool then look through the bottom vent. If I see piles of ash I remove it, wither with the clean out tool or a small shop vac.

      You should really look at a Kick Ash Basket. It really helps with airflow and it makes clean up a breeze. I also find that long cooks run much smoother as well. Remove your stock fire grate and only use the basket.

      Check them out, I am sure they make one for the Akorn.
