What suggestions does everyone have with WSM in winter with wind? The wind starts to pick up in fall/winter. For the bottom vent area I considered a camping stove wind guard. I am not sure what is best. Any ideas would be great.

I go low tech and just turn our Key away from the wind.
If its frozen into the ground a small sheet of plywood always does the trick, cardboard always flies away.

Interesting solution, it’s also the way to avoid the weatherman/woman’s dreaded boogeyman, windchill!

I agree that that wind makes the WSM (mine is the 22â€) difficult to regulate temp. And I too have compensated by making the downwind vent the open one with ok results I guess. But I’m also one who hasn’t done anything to remedy the infamous leaky door. I wonder if there’s any correlation between the "hard to control in the wind" camp and "I fixed my leaky door" camp 🤔

I've found with my PBC that the one weather scenario that really makes it tough to control temps is when it is windy. Went so far as to put it in the garage one time because of the wind. For those who are concerned, I didn't leave the doors shut, just moved it where it was out of the wind. I live in MN, so we see a fair amount of cold weather and the cold does seem to have an impact on cook times. My experience running the cooker in the cold (sometimes extreme) is that I need more air flow to maintain temps which typically means that the basket of charcoal is going to burn faster.

Try this blanket. I use it all the time in the MN winter! https://www.amazon.com/Tillman-Panox.../dp/B005H2N9DQ

When I am using my PBC in sub-zero temps, I like to use a non-shedding welding blanket. It works great for insulating the barrel from the cold temps in the MN winter. You can find them at a ton of hardware stores. They work great.
