    WSM Maintenance Question

Found a used 18.5 WSM, they want $250 for it. That seems a little on the high end and it has some rust. Any input on how easy it will be to clean the firebox? Is this a good deal?

You can get a new one for $300 or so. I own a couple and have never seen rust like that. Means the enamel has worn off, little odd. May have built a large fire in the bottom. Your call but for $50 I’d pass.

Thanks for the quick reply Troutman. I was thinking the same, I will keep looking.

        $250?

$300 new and the new ones have the grommet for thermometer probes.

Offer $100 and I wouldn't personally pay more than $150 for it, especially given that it's not pristine.

I agree with Troutman and JeffJ, for a little more cash you can get brand-new!

I have (had) a 12 year old Bradley electric smoker. When I initially got it I put it through its paces. It served me well and got a lot of use. Over the past few years I found myself rarely using it and when I did it was never for meat. I found out my neighbor across the street - we are in that in-between phase of being neighbors/acquaintances and friends, although we are far closer to the latter - was in the market. I lent him mine and did a bit of research and basically, even though it was $500 brand new, I could really only reasonably expect to get 10% of that. I mentioned to him that I was looking to unload it and when I floated $50 he immediately pounced.

Buying anything used comes with certain inherent risks...those should factor into the price. $250 for a used smoker that retails at $300? Nope!

Congrats! $120 for a used 18.5 WSM seems like a pretty fair price.

Now, you need to start using it and posting some pics.
