Congrats on your new toy. The WSM has been a rock solid cooker in my collection for years. Couple of mods I think you will really enjoy would be the addition of a hinge to your lid as well as a Pit Viper fan to pair with that FireBoard. You will have rock solid results with that fan control.

Look forward to your cooking results !!!

I’ve got the hinge. Just haven’t installed it yet. Was thinking about the fan unit just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. My mcs is content for now but I am getting an itch in the middle of my back

I've had my WSM for 8-9 years and have added recent mods to make it similar to a drum smoker. I bought the Gateway hanging rack and the Hunsaker Vortex charcoal plate. I've been using this setup recently for my competition rib cooks with decent success. As for fuel, I've successfully used both lump and charcoal, but tend to stick with briquettes because I stock up on it during the big box sales.

that was the 5 lb (the largest of 3 that was on the rotisserie). I had to leave the house to go check on a lead and it finished sooner than I thought it would. The temp was on the high end of med rare By the time I got back home. Tender and juicy. just the color was a little brown but didn’t affect the tenderness. Still made some good Sammie’s outta it and some leftover fer today. The wsm chugged right along. I love this new toy

Yes they have park brakes. Made sure of that. As for the size the next size up wasn’t rated as much as these smaller ones. I believe these 3 in hold 175 where as the next size, 4in will hold only 130 lbs. was still debating that getting the 4 inch instead. I still might go down and pick the 4 inch ones for the next I get and see if there is a difference
