Alabama Smoke I put the gasket under the lip of the lid only, fits perfect and no leaks.... But I also use 4 clamps to lock it down, overkill yes, but creates an air tight seal.
Mark Williams after looking at my lid and barrel I expected that is the case as I do not see a surface on the barrel top that would likely keep a gasket in place. Do you happen to recall the width of the gasket? I would assume that it should be the width of the lid space that takes the barrel lip up into it? Or am overthinking this? I will plan to clean the barrel space for the gasket and install it and try it that way. Assuming that is not enough, then I will try adding weight etc. Tks!
