Hi fzxdoc! Your timing is good, as I’ve returned to post my final review of the IQ110, and here it is:

After two more severely underwhelming cooks in which much fiddling and experimentation were performed in an attempt to rectify the wonky performance, guess what? When I relocated the barrel after the 4th of July cook (we had rain, so the barrel had to come into the garage), as predicted / expected, the power cord from the IQ110 had melted against the outside of the barrel. At least THAT performance, which was the crappiest of the three, had an explanation.

FINAL VERDICT: The IQ110 is awarded the title of BFM - Burning Fecal Matter, as it is by far the biggest flaming pile of crap I’ve run across in the past 20 years of outdoor cooking. Shite materials, shite performance, shite customer service all adds up to a sum of spend your money elsewhere and get a quality product instead.

Fun fact fzxdoc - "gripe" is the British term for diaper rash. 😊

And you are SO right... got me a BIG OL’ case of gripe over this one! 😂😂😂

HOWEVER - since I am all about providing solutions instead of problems, I offer this addendum:

Decided to order up a new meat probe this afternoon, and it appears the BBQ gods have heard my prayer! 😃

Specializing in cool, unique and professional temperature tools. Super-Fast thermocouples, thermistors, infrared thermometers, data logging and more.

I will be calling ThermoWorks on Monday to see if this baby is compatible with Pit Barrel Cookers, and if so I will be pulling the trigger. It’s going to require that I upgrade from my Smoke to a Signals unit, but I’ve been considering that for a while anyway... and hey, sacrifices need to be made sometimes in the name of SCIENCE! 😃🙌

LOL well. You could always look at building a small solar power station/work table to stay out in the yard next to your pits.

AverageJoe - You, sir, are a straight-up certifiable mad scientist GENIUS!!! 😃🙌

Guess who’s going to be looking at solar panels this week! 😈

The girlfriend is gonna LOVE this one... 😂😂😂

Anyone done this yet on a PBC? I would assume something like this would work for power - https://www.anker.com/products/varia...arger/B1375112 I already have one so that is what I would trying if I end up giving this a try.

So the XL Grill Dome adapter from BBQ Guru, the Pit Viper Fan (medium), and a Fireboard remote thermometer plus its drive cable are not in the running, gdsim1 ? People here seem to like the results of that setup. If you keep the Fireboard charged up, you don't need its power cord.

    Kathryn

ETA: here's a link to one review of that setup, although he bought a larger Pit Viper fan when later on in the topic he says that the medium size would have been more than adequate

fzxdoc - criminey woman, lead me NOT unto temptation! 😂😂😂 The Fireboard is a heckuva machine from the bit I’ve read previously, but I seem to remember very pricey and it felt a bit like overkill with the 6 channels .

Still, if you’re going to be a bear... LOL

I wonder if the new ThermoWorks probes I just ordered would be compatible with the Fireboard... 🤔

gdsim1 what we need is someone that has both the Fireboard and Signals to get this so that we can see if it is compatible.

I think that would be a tough find AverageJoe. Maybe in the reviews section here, about the best idea I can think of... I’ll check there later tonight. Was already on my to-do list anyway thanks to fzxdoc. LOL

Just to add my two cents worth, here's a graph of a 275° tri-tip cook I did yesterday using Cyber Cloud control and the Pit Viper fan. However, I knew that it was only going to be a 45-50 minute cook so I filled the charcoal basket about half full and likewise the small PBC chimney about half full. The control and fan were up and running before I dumped the chimney on the coals which may or may not be an important discovery. I've only done it the one time. I put the lid back on and waited for the PBC to come up to temp and put the meat on. I thought the temp control was astounding. The big jump in food temp was from when I removed the meat probe, laid it on the grill and took the meat off to Searzall it before putting it back in the PBC with the probe in to finish cooking it.
