    Barrel mobility

Just got this today. Works fantastic if anyone is looking for PBC mobility. Haven't cooked with it yet. Looks like the ring is far enough away to not interfere with the intake vent. If it does I imagine I can cut a notch or open the vent a bit more.

Looks good! Have you had to deal with wind yet? Does it get pushed around or do the wheels catch between the pavers? It doesn’t look like the wheels lock and it would suck if a gust comes up during a long cook and you see it drifting across the patio. 😀

Just got it today. Don't think wind should be a problem. However those monsoon winds could possibly be a problem. Can pull it off the dolly when the weather looks bad. Don't think I'll cook on any of my cookers when monsoon activity is predicted anyway. You are right, there are no brakes on the casters.

Very cool, thanks for sharing this, I added it to my amazon wish list! This would really help me on rainy days when I want to move cookers around on the deck to get under the cantilever umbrella. I wonder if I'd still need heat protection between the PBC and the wooden deck, or if this supplies enough air space. SWMBO might enjoy not having the PBC prominently displayed on pavers in the middle of the deck as well - always looking for those bonus points. 👍🏻

I'd move the heat protection as well. A few thin pavers slid under the dolly should do the trick. The wife may get grumpy if there is even a small heat-caused discoloration on the deck. Just saying.

Kind of reminds me of my garbage can setup....

(sorry not to disparage your PBC, but it does)

Works well for the other brand also. Leaving the legs intact gives clearance for the different vent control and the added benefit, for taller folk, is the added height.

Is there a way to keep the cooker's legs securely on the cross members of the dolly? I find myself wondering bumping over deck boards or pavers might joggle the cooker enough so the feet might slide off with unpleasant results.

The way the fasteners for the wheels protrude is both a "problem" and an opportunity. The problem is they interfere with the legs as supplied. The legs have a small hole in the middle of the bottom pad and it would be neat to just drill a matching hole in the rolling base except that the mounting bracket for the caster interferes. So, my solution was to notch each foot to clear the two interfering fasteners on each leg. I'll post additional below for a picture.

I always put my foot under it, flip it up about 15 feet into the air, catch the handle with my eyes closed and sling it over my shoulder. But that looks nice too. :-)

IowaGirl this is additional to above remarks so I can post a bigger pic of the leg clearance cuts. The way it works out the bottom of each leg is a fairly tight fit between the fastener and the outer rim of the dolly. For movement over pavement it stays put very well. If the surface is rough and catches the wheels it might be an issue since typically you'd be pushing at the top which gives leverage. In that case it might be prudent to use a couple small, flat metal tabs opposite one another with hold down fasteners drilled through the frame just inside where the caster is fastened. Two on opposing sides would be enough to clamp it securely.

Thanks for the clarification -- that's a much better way to go than just setting the cooker feet on the dolly and hoping for the best.

Rod , have you investigated a method to secure the PBC to that dolly? Does it look like an easy thing to do with the PBC's horseshoe-shaped feet?

fzxdoc I just don't use the feet. I was concerned the ring might interfere with the vent. Just cooked a meatloaf today with zero issues. In fact, my temps soared to 430 and had to use the usual tricks to bring down to where I needed. The bottom lip sits just outside the nuts that secure the casters. So when moving it around they won't allow the barrel to slide up against the ring.

Thanks, Rod . Good to know that the caster's nuts keep the barrel in place. What a serendipitous find for the dolly you chose.
